One of the most annoying parts of social media is the overflow of content. As soon as you log on, you are bombarded with images, text, videos, and audio that a curated for you, but all seem to mesh together. For a business-owner, this can be a huge problem. You want your content to be the hottest thing your audience will see scrolling through their feed.
1. Post Something Unexpected
Most people that follow your content will likely be following similar pages or companies. What do you do? Post something that is out of the norm! For example, if a wedding photographer posted an image of a wedding photo, styled as a vinyl record. It’s both intriguing, and fairly uncommon. This little play on content can increase shares, and engagement.
2. Engage With Your Current Clients
When you meet your customers, there is this mutual standard of professionalism and a relationship is built around that. It’s essential to maintain this level of professionalism, however, don’t let this stop you from engaging with your clients on social media. For instance, if a business consultant has a client who works in plumbing, tagging them in a post about an awesome new plumbing tool would be a great way to build the relationship with the client. Now, it would be awesome if the client already follows your content so it is not seen as strange but if you already follow them, it can be a great way to show you think of them and they should follow you back.
3. Go LIVE
Making videos don’t have to be a full blown production with perfect lighting and a script. Sometimes, it helps your customers feel more connected by seeing you in your work environment. You can answer questions you typically get, discuss exciting parts of your job, or give sneak-peaks of upcoming products or services. Be yourself! It is rewarding to for customers to see they are supporting quality work made by someone who is genuine. None of the typical YouTube accent either. Talking normally will keep viewers around much longer.
4. Request Challenges From Your Audience
This is an ambitious one, but I’m sure you can do it in some form no matter what your industry may be. For creatives, tell your audience that you will use requirements from the top 10 comments to create a logo. A mechanic can do a challenge to change the oil in a car in an insane amount of time. These can be really fun and it can be repeated weekly to keep the audience suggesting more insane challenges and engaging with your page.
5. Funny Skits
Businesses have taken memes and turned them into bland, often outdated attempts at being funny while marketing a product or service in efforts to be relatable. Video content does take some time, but setting it up to things other companies in your industry or your customers would find hilarious can get you a tremendous amount of attention. Of course, these things should be in good taste, but being true to industry culture will re-create real experiences and therefore one more people can say they’ve had as well.
